Let the people vote on indoor pool

I honestly don’t know if an enclosed swimming pool should or should not be built. But I do know that the people should vote on this large project.

Bismarck is a democracy, not a dictatorship.

Since I am writing about the Park Board, I would be remiss if I didn’t put in another plug for the idea of honoring the memory of Satchel Paige by naming our ballpark for Satchel Paige. This idea will definitely be supported by the people of Bismarck.

I do have one more question on the Park Board. I understand that the Bismarck Park Board is basically the only governing board whose meetings are not televised for local broadcasting.

If this is true, why won’t the Park Board let the citizens of Bismarck see their proceedings? It makes me think that they must have something they want to hide. I hope not.

" The last time the park board came out of hiding was for People, parks and places. They pushed for it like it was a great idea... and it was soundly defeated by the citizens. Proof of how "out of touch" they are with the citizens of Bismarck. Don't think they will be in a big hurry for a repeat of that performance. "

" I totally agree with naming the ballpark after Satchel Paige - I think it would be quite fitting and a testament to the rich history of baseball in Bismarck. "

" I don't normally agree with Mr. Walker but he is right. The Park Board needs to bring it's business to the people rather than the people having to go to the Park Board's meetings. It is not the way to do business when there are better alternatives. It needs to learn how to engage the community. Thus a vote on such a project is appropriate. Another point of interest is are the salaries being paid to middle and senior managers. My understanding is that there are some who are recreating and tending to other businesses causing them to be unaccessible during normal business hours. Maybe it is time for the public to know what we are reciving for the salaries paid. It is time for the business of the Park Board to come out of hiding. "
