FARGO (AP) - A man has been charged with manslaughter in a weekend hit-and-run death.Michael Sauvageau, 26, of Fargo, also faces a felony charge involving duty in an accident involving death or injury and a misdemeanor drunken driving charge.
Authorities said Sauvageau was driving a sport utility vehicle that struck Torri Knutson, 18, of East Grand Forks, Minn., as she was crossing a Fargo street shortly before 3 a.m. Saturday.
Knutson died of her injuries later that morning.
Court records say police got a call from Sauvageau's father, who said his son was in an accident and was acting strange. Sauvageau told police he had hit something but was not sure what it was. An officer said his breath smelled of alcohol during the interview.
Authorities said the vehicle driven by Sauvageau matched the description of the vehicle at the scene of the hit-and-run, and was missing a part that was found at the scene.
Judge Steven McCullough set Sauvageau's bail Monday at $25,000.
