FARGO, N.D. (AP) — A federal appeals court has overturned the conviction of Susan Bala, who was sentenced to 27 months in prison for running an illegal gambling business.

A ruling Tuesday from the 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals says the evidence was insufficient to convict Bala, of Fargo, and Racing Services Inc., the company she founded.

Bala was convicted by a jury in 2005 of 12 felonies in what authorities said was the largest illegal gambling case in North Dakota history.
