ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - The heavy snow that blew furiously across New York state Wednesday, grounding planes, halting trains and closing schools and offices, also forced a halt to a world record attempt for snow angels.

In Syracuse, school district officials postponed Thursday's attempt at a Guinness world record for most snow angels in one place, blaming all the snow and projected wind chills in the teens.

Syracuse's annual Winterfest celebration has included a snow angel attempt each of the past three years.

North Dakotans will get their turn Saturday in Bismarck to try to beat the mark of 3,784 snow angels set by students at Michigan Technological University in Houghton about a year ago.

The Michigan mark topped the record of 1,791 snow angels set in Bismarck in 2002.
