MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Ryan Duncan scored twice and added two assists as North Dakota routed top-ranked Minnesota 7-3 on Saturday, sweeping a two-game series in Minneapolis for the first time in 27 years.

The Fighting Sioux (15-11-2 overall, 9-9-2 WCHA), who won the series opener 5-3 on Friday, rallied from a first-period deficit and killed nine Minnesota power plays for their third straight win at Mariucci Arena.

Kyle Okposo and Derek Peltier both had a pair of assists for the Golden Gophers (21-5-3, 13-4-3), who have won just twice in their past six games (2-4-0) and were swept at home for the first time since December 2005. Duncan and Erik Fabian scored 24 seconds apart in the second, and T.J. Oshie added a pair of third period goals, giving North Dakota its first sweep at Minnesota since Feb. 15-16, 1980.

Cobber Open

University of Mary shot putter Josh Obrigewitch erased the oldest individual school record out of the indoor books.

Obrigewitch threw the shot put 55 feet, 6½ inches to etch his name into school history and to place first. Obrigewitch bested Howard Hausauer's mark of 55-3, which was set in 1991.

Obrigewitch broke Hausauer's career-best put on the fifth throw of the competition. He bettered it on his last throw.

"It's been coming but you still have to go out and do it," U-Mary head coach Mike Thorson said. "He was disappointed (last week) at Montana State."

" Dance is not a sport. It's an art. "

Where are the dancers? wrote on Jan 28, 2007 1:47 PM:

" I am having trouble finding where the results would be from yesterdays (1/27)State Dance and Drill competion that was held in Grand Forks. My daughter was in dance and drill for several years and this definitely is or should be considered a sport. I haven't found the results or any relating stories in the sports section (on-line) or any relating articles anywhere else in the Tribune. I do think these girls and their coaches (and parents) work hard enough to have fair media coverage!!!! "
