Trivia answer

From 1D: Pat Summitt became the first women's college basketball coach to win 800 Division I games when her Tennessee Lady Vols beat DePaul on this date in 2003.

10 years ago (1997):Two players held their own dunk contest, two teams found a cure for insomnia, and the Dakota Wizards won their fifth straight home game in site of themselves. The Wizards posted a lackadaisical 90-72 win over the Winnipeg Cyclones in an International Basketball Association game at the Civic Center. Coach Jay Garmatz said more than the two teams were to blame. "We've got officials in this league who can't tell the difference between a high school foul and an IBA foul," he said.

20 years ago (1987): Fans at the Bismarck-Century basketball game didn't have to wait until halftime for the gymnastics show. Doug Schirado performed a floor exercise routine that would have earned a 10 from the Russian judge. Schirado scored half of his baskets while virtually standing on his head and finished with 26 points to lead the Demons to a 64-51 Western Dakota Association win. In addition to three 3-pointers and 10-of-15 field goal shooting, Schirado had Century coach Jerry Wilson shaking his head with inside baskets. Shirado's penetrationg moves weren't just driving layups. They were diving layups.

50 years ago (1957): With a heavenly guidance, St. Mary's Central fought off a determined last-ditch bid by Mandan High to squeak out a 52-51 Class A Western Division victory. Had the contest gone another minute, however, you wouldn't be able to vouch for the safe-keeping of the advantage. The Braves performances still served a noisy notice that Jim Rolando's charges must be reckoned with. Last game they led for three quarters before succumbing to Bismarck, 51-43. At Mandan's dimly-lit Memorial Building, it was another reversal of form, After three quarters of off-shooting and erratic play, the Braves decided they wanted this one. And in a matter of two minutes they trimmed an 11-point deficit to two.
