GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) — A Wisconsin man who ran an illegal waterfowl hunting operation near Leeds has been ordered to pay more than $2,300 in fines and restitution.James Wheaton, of Neshkoro, Wis., avoided a jury trial in a plea agreement with prosecutors.
Wheaton's hunting, fishing and trapping privileges also have been suspended for two years.
Wheaton faced charges of guiding without a license, possessing ducks without a valid license or permit, illegal transportation of waterfowl, concealing illegally taken game and guiding on prohibited lands, court records show.
Authorities say Wheaton and another man advertised North Dakota waterfowl hunts in a Wisconsin magazine. Wardens from out of state, working under cover with the state Game and Fish Department, responded to an ad and booked a hunt through the operation, known as Flyway Outfitters.
That led to a warrant served in October, 2005 at a house one of the men owned in Leeds, authorities said.
