Animal shelter to hold Shaggy Shuffle

The Central Dakota Humane Society is holding its annual Folkfest Shaggy Shuffle at the Capitol grounds on Sunday. Registration and fun will begin at 1 p.m., and the walk will start at 2 p.m.

Walkers will be treated to food, drinks, music and other entertainment. Incentive awards will be given out for each level of money raised, and walkers who raise more than $1,000 will automatically have their choice of a gas grill or a spa certificate. Door prize drawings will also be held.

"Shaggy Shuffle is our biggest fundraiser of the year," said Rita O'Neill, Shaggy Shuffle organizer. "It's an exciting event, and we invite everyone to bring their pets and family members and help us raise some much needed funds for the pets at the CDHS shelter."

Walkers will be able to choose the length of the route they walk - a 3.5-mile walk, a two-mile walk or a 1/8-mile walk. For more information about Shaggy Shuffle or to register, call the shelter at 667-2020.

for the pets... wrote on Sep 14, 2006 12:21 PM:

" The mandan humane society is not the only place where you can adopt a pet. The police department has many beautiful cats and dogs (and even an occasional bird) for adoption. Adoption there is very easy and they are so nice to those who are willing to give a pet a home and a second chance. There is no charge for adoption, it only takes a few minutes, and they only ask you to get their shots and license them as soon as you can. Animals can be viewed on their web page at BISMARCK.ORG (go to city departments, then police department, then impounded animals). Spare a life and make a friend. "
