A kayak and equipment, valued at almost $1,100, was taken from a residence in the 1100 block of South University Drive sometime between 4 and 7 p.m. on Thursday.

The owner, a 38-year-old Bismarck man, told police Friday that neighbors told him they saw someone in a white car strap it to the roof and take off, according to a Bismarck police report.

There are no suspects and the case is under investigation.

" You would be welcome to be my neighbor. I secure all my belonging like duh commented, but that is not always enough. The article did not state this. It's good to have neighbors that look out for each other. Too bad he didn't. "

" Its awfully convenient the neighbors "witnessed" the theft but got no license plate, a little too convenient. I would search the neighbor's house. "

" or maybe people should realize that things like this unfortunately happen in the society we live in - be proactive and secure your belongings - not allowing someone to do this. would you leave a stack of $100 bills laying on your front lawn. just a thought. "

" People today just don't care enough to give someone else a second thought. To play the devil's advocate though if a person doesn't act suspicious and is normal they can get away with lots and people don't give the scenario a second thought. I've confronted people and cars I don't recognize using our condo complex's dumpster (big complex) and followed them to make sure they actually live there. Why they didn't use the dumpster on their side of the complex is beyond me. If in doubt always get a license plate. I always got a pad of paper and pen at the ready in my vehicles and house. "

" What nice neighbors this man has. I would hope that my neighbors would have confronted these people and ask them what they are doing and then write down the license plate number. I guess I must be the nosey neighbor because I like to know what and who are coming and going in my neighborhood. "
