10 years ago (1996): Two Bismarck skaters and one from Beulah and one from Belfield won their divisions in the Riverfront Sports Skateboard and Inline Skate contest at Sertoma Park. Jared Aller of Beulah won the 16-under division and Craig Moilanen of Bismarck took first in 17-older in inline skating. Skateboard winners were Brian Heck of Belfield, 16-under and Paul Ide, Bismarck, 17-older.

25 years ago (1981): A second-place finish in the state Class D men's slowpitch tourney by the Mandan Knights of Columbus was the best performance turned in by Bismarck-Mandan teams in three state events. The KCs finally lost 5-3 to Williston Jerry & Rick's Weed Control of the D tourney, played at Dickinson. Bismarck Miller Insulation won the consolation. They were the only two teams to bring home any trophies.

50 years ago (1956): FARGO The two favorites advance to the semifinal rounds in the 32nd annual North Dakota Women's Golf Association state tournament. Mary Dalrymple of Casselton, the tournament medalist, and Georgia Tainter Goff of Fargo, a former champion, posted victories in quarterfinal play.
