Elegant? No, the Bismarck Governors' 13-9 Legion baseball victory over Mandan on Tuesday at Municipal Ballpark was far from elegant.

The game bore more resemblance to a brawl than to ballet.

Hits littered the landscape and so did stranded runners - 30 of them. Twenty-two runs and 35 hits were not what might have been anticipated with Brian Borr on the mound for Mandan and Brandon Solemsaas going for Bismarck.

"It was one of those nights. I don't know if the pitchers didn't have all their stuff or what it was," said Torey Bohan, who drove in four runs for the Governors. "The guys were hitting the ball."

But it was a win nonetheless, a divisional win and a win over Mandan.

"It's always nice to beat them," Bohan said. "There's always a rivalry that goes into it and playing nine innings gives it a different feel."

The Governors, who rapped only three hits through the first four innings, solved Mandan right-hander Brian Borr for six hits in the fifth.

Tim Jallen, Daniel Eichele, Josh Standing Elk and Justin Connell all supplied RBI singles and Torey Bohan contributed a two-run single to the uprising.

When the smoke had cleared, the Governors led 8-4 and were ahead to stay.

Three more runs in the sixth and two in the eighth put Bismarck in the driver's seat 13-6.

Bohan led the Bismarck attack with a single, double and four RBIs. Josh Standing Elk and Zach Wentz each rapped three hits for the Governors.

Paul Moch drilled five hits for Mandan and Chad Brucker added three.

Each team invested three pitchers in the game and the only one who wasn't scored on was Moch, who worked the final two-thirds of an inning for Mandan.
