The price of gasoline edged close to $3 a gallon on Friday after jumping 12 cents at many stations in the Bismarck-Mandan area.Cy Fix, general manager of Cenex, said the wholesale price of gasoline is causing the increase at the pump.
"They thought this week we would see drops, but it never happened," Fix said.
The lowest price for gas at most stations was $2.99 on Friday after hovering around $2.87 for several days.
Gene LaDoucer, a spokesman for AAA North Dakota, said gas prices jumped 10 cents at some stations overnight in Fargo. LaDoucer said some stations in Fargo are charging $2.79 a gallon, while many have held their price at $2.69.
"Ihave no explanation why Bismarck jumped that much,"LaDoucer said.
Gas prices also increased overnight in other parts of the nation.
Despite the increase in gas prices, there was some promising news about oil prices on Friday.
According to the Associated Press, lowered forecasts for global oil demand from the International Energy Agency eased pressure on the energy market. A barrel of light crude lost $1.22 to settle at $72.10 on the New York Mercantile Exchange on Friday.
