The price of gasoline edged close to $3 a gallon on Friday after jumping 12 cents at many stations in the Bismarck-Mandan area.

Cy Fix, general manager of Cenex, said the wholesale price of gasoline is causing the increase at the pump.

"They thought this week we would see drops, but it never happened," Fix said.

The lowest price for gas at most stations was $2.99 on Friday after hovering around $2.87 for several days.

Gene LaDoucer, a spokesman for AAA North Dakota, said gas prices jumped 10 cents at some stations overnight in Fargo. LaDoucer said some stations in Fargo are charging $2.79 a gallon, while many have held their price at $2.69.

"Ihave no explanation why Bismarck jumped that much,"LaDoucer said.

Gas prices also increased overnight in other parts of the nation.

Despite the increase in gas prices, there was some promising news about oil prices on Friday.

According to the Associated Press, lowered forecasts for global oil demand from the International Energy Agency eased pressure on the energy market. A barrel of light crude lost $1.22 to settle at $72.10 on the New York Mercantile Exchange on Friday.

" Ok, ok I'll I hear is about being taken avantage of which yes we are, but you know what I don't hear a single bit about anyone trying alternative modes of transpertation. Dose anyone realize that if we were to drop our demand for oil 3%, 3% thats it, that our gas prices would drop back down to the $1.50 range. You know what you could also park a mile away from your job and walk the rest of the why, dose anyone realize what kind of difference that would make if everyone cut driving 30 miles a month. I hear some complaining about there suberban WHAT'S wrong with you in the first palce, vehicals like that are the reasons why our prices or so high. It's all supply and demand. The Only reason why we are taken avdvantage at the pump is because we allow it, do you realize that there would be revots in other country's (don't be dumb and start one though, it's just and example). We do nothing but harm ourselves because we as American's don't walk to work we don't bike, rollerbalde, skateboard, all we do is shell out at the pump and complain, and hope the governmert will step in and provide relef. We as American's are lazy, greedy piles who can't even buy a mopeid and drive that around because it's not some tricked out ride. I haven't driven to work in over a month, it only takes me 10 minutes longer to get there, but I save $200.00 a month. You want prices here in Bismarck to go down, do something about it. Stop the demand. "

" A Few Things - First, why when oil prices dropped last week did we not see a drop in our gas prices. When the Hurricanes hit we were told "prices go up becuase we predict what the trend will be on our next shipment" We knew oil prices were supposed to drop but NO drop here! Second, in answer to the gas thing in Bismarck...I think I have a theory...and his name is Wanneberg (sp?) We need to look at how he runs his stations "

" I think we should pay the same price that they pay in Fargo. These guys in Bismarck should be run out of town for ripping off the public the way they do. We should all buy our gas from one station like farmers Union until they get the message that they don't control us. "

" Gas in Fargo was 267.9 on Friday. Quite a difference from Bismarck. "

" Collusion is illegal and almost impossible to prove. For me as a consumer, these owners are guilty. I for one will wait in line at Sam's. "

" Gas here in Sanfran is $3.57 for the cheap stuff. I don't know how you people can make it on the wages they are paying. Watch CSPAN and you will see the oil CEOs getting grilled over prices. No relief in sight and we could see oil spikes as high as $100.00 per barrel. Sams club prices are roughly .15 cheaper than everyone out here. "

" I question the sudden increases in the costs of gasoline because I feel that we, as consumers are being taken severe advantage of. I didn't really think about it as much as I have with the recent opening of SuperWalmart. Suddenly this monster store opens and now Dan's comes down in there prices...yet another industry monopolizing the community until they feel threatened to loose customers. Is this what the local gas industry plans to do as well?? Once Sam's/Walmart opens their gas station we will finally receive releif at the pumps. This community pays mainly 7 or 8 dollars an hour to almost everyone...how do the average joes in Bismarck continue to feed and transport their families in this community when we continue to be taken advantage of!! It would be nice if someone from the local refinery would come forward and explain why the costs increase so much when the refinery is right here in the town. Maybe that is the part we are not understanding! "

" I am interested to see what happens to the gas prices when Sams Club starts selling gas. Hopefully, it serves as a wake-up call to those who currently own gas stations around Bismarck. "

" There's nothing like the BisMan gouge when it comes to fuel prices. Why does'nt anyone investigate this? Why do our community leaders turn a blind eye? It really makes a person wonder whats going on at City Hall. "

" What are we expected to do? I drive a suburban-its paid for and selling it at this point is a joke-who would buy it...so I am stuck-gas prices are entirely too high and for no reason.....I agree that gas station owners in Bismarck/Mandan are all agreed on prices......when is government going to step in and say enough..... "

kelly wrote on May 13, 2006 6:56 AM:

" Why is bismarck so high for the price of gas? Becuase the gas station in Bismarck are all greed. They do not need a reason. We have a refinery in our back yard so the cost of transporting it is not that high. All the gas station oweners are in a group that decides what to charge. It has nothing todo withthe what they pay for the gas. It is just plain greed. "
